PORTRAIT OF SHREWSBURY

Shrewsbury is the county town of Shropshire and one of England’s finest Medieval and Tudor towns. It stands on a rocky promontory which is almost completely surrounded by the River Severn. The river has protected the town over the years, firstly from assault, and more recently from the influx of major industrial complexes. As a result Shrewsbury has retained much of its charm and many of its old buildings. There are no less than 660 listed buildings within the loop of the river. This slide show begins with a journey down the River Severn, and goes on to look at buildings from the Medieval, Tudor, Georgian and Victorian & Modern periods. It ends with some images of Shrewsbury today - a Town of Flowers. It can be given as a 1hr or 1½ - 2hrs show.
PORTRAIT OF THE SHROPSHIRE HILLS

This slide show is based on my book "Portrait of the Shropshire Hills" which was published by Halsgrove in May 2009. It starts with a tour of the Long Mynd in the heart of the Shropshire Hills, crosses the Stretton Valley to visit the rugged volcanic rocks of the Stretton Hills, goes north to climb The Wrekin, then around to explore the Stiperstones, the Clun Hills, the Clee Hills and finally, the famous limestone escarpment of Wenlock Edge. It shows some of the archaeology, geology and wildlife of the hills, and tells of the many myths and legends connected with them. It can be given as a 1hr or 1½ - 2hrs slide show. Signed copies of my book will be available for sale.
SAILING DOWN THE GANGES

In November 2001, my wife and I sailed down the River Ganges from Allahabad to the holy city of Varanasi in a local boat, camping overnight on sandbanks. The places we visited are accessible only by river, and are well off the tourist trail. We saw no motorcars or motorised boats on our trip, and it was fascinating to look back in time and see life as it was everywhere many centuries ago. Our slide show includes photographs of the activities along the river and some slides of the wildlife. A small display of beautiful Indian fabrics can be included on request.
